Building my PC
Objective:
In order to save money and learn about computers, I decided to build my own PC from scratch instead of buying a pre-built computer.
I aimed to build a computer that could run Fusion 360 well with good fps and high caliber graphics. I sought to purchase all the components for under $800.
Brainstorming process:
Using PC builder, I mapped out which components to buy, deciding on the following critical components:
Ryzen 5 3600 as the CPU
GTX 1660 super as the graphics card
16 gigs of ram DDR4
1 terabyte SSD (did not want to run out of space!)
I also watched multiple tutorials on how to build a PC to ensure that I would know what to do.
Assembly:
I screwed in each part of the computer and carefully connected all the cables. Then, I used the back panel and zip ties to organize my cables so that I could have excellent cable management. After 3-4 hours of hard work, I finished the last (and most important step) of installing the RGB lights and fans.
Results:
Success! The computer ran Fusion 360 perfectly and I was able to start CADing for the next robotics season despite the pandemic. I was able to build the entire system for slightly under $800 (I was lucky with timing - the prices for computer parts skyrocketed shortly after I finished).
